Ceramic Wall Tile Adhesive
Identification
A ready mixed non slip thin bed adhesive for fixing ceramic tiles and mosaics. Water based, non flammable. Will fix tiles to plaster, concrete, wood, paint, existing tiles, bricks, plasterboard.
Standards
Meets the performance requirements as outlined in BS 5980:1980, type 2, class B. Not a flexible adhesive
Composition
A filled synthetic resin emulsion with fungicide added.
Biological
Contain a fungicide and does not support the growth of mould
Preparation
Surfaces to be tiled must be clean, dry, flat and sound, and free from oil, grease, dust and loose particles. Cracks and holes should be filled with Durabond Super Filler. Porous surfaces should be primed using 1 part Durabond PVA to 5 parts water. For surfaces liable to movement or vibration, contact our Technical Services Department.
Application
Spread the tile adhesive evenly over an area of approximately half a square metre at a time, to a depth of about 3mm using a notched spreader. Next press the dry tiles into position with a firm twisting motion into the ribs of adhesive. Ensure complete contact between the tile back and the adhesive. If working in difficult corners or other awkward areas, it helps to apply adhesives to the back of the tiles as well as to the wall surfaces. For showerproof applications the adhesive should be applied using a smooth-edged trowel, to give a solid bed of at least 3mm thickness. It is important to ensure full contact. Remove surplus adhesive from the surfaces of the tiles, before it dries, using a damp cloth. Leave the tiles for 24 hours before grouting. Use Durabond white water resistant grout.
WORKING CHARACTERISTICS
Working Time
Tiles may be placed up to 20 minutes after spreading the adhesive
Setting Time
24 hours should be allowed for the adhesive to dry before grouting. In normal conditions full bond strength is achieved by 28 days.
Coverage
Approximately 0.4 square metres per litre at 3mm bed. 1.2 square metres if spread by notched trowel.
Storage
1 year in unopened containers - protect from frost.
Cleaning
Tools and tile faces may be cleaned with water while adhesive is still wet. After drying solvents (Ethyl Acetate) must be used to remove adhesive.
