Frostproofer & Accelerator
Description:
Durabond Frostproofer & Accelerator
when mixed with the gauging water and added to a cement mix,
acts as a rapid hardener, accelerating the rate of setting,
increasing the compressive strength, increasing resistance to
wear, reducing the danger of dusting, acting as a frostproofer,
and forming a non-porous finish.
Recommended Mixes:
The following table indicates for various mixes, the effect
on hardening time and frost resistance of different levels of
addition. The performance figures suggested are typical values:
actual values vary with specific conditions.
Hardening time is taken as the stage at which the cement has
hardened sufficiently to withstand light pressure. A longer
period is needed before heavy traffic is advisable.
| USE GUIDE | Material to 50kg cement/litres | Ratio to Water | Hardening time/hours | Frost Resistance °C |
| Concrete 1:2:4 | 2.25 | 1:10 | 7 | -4 |
| 4.50 | 1:5 | 2.5 | -8 | |
| Floor Screeds 1:3 | 2.25 | 1:8 | 6 | -4 |
| 4.50 | 1:4 | 2 | -8 | |
| Brick Mortars 1:6 | 2.25 | 1:12 | - | -4 |
| 4.50 | 1:6 | - | -8 |
Reinforced Concrete:
In reinforced concrete, the addition rate should not exceed 1 litre per 50kg cement, this amount being equivalent to 0.55
Water Leak Sealing
Frostproofer and Accelerator may also be used to permit plugging of water leaks. For this application it should be used neat with Ordinary Portland Cement to form a stiff paste. Hardening takes place within a few minutes.
Safe Handling
Frostproofer and Accelerator is slightly alkaline. Avoid prolonged skin contact and protect eyes. Wash off with soap and water.
