Rapid Repair Mortar
Rapid Setting Repair Mortar has been formulated for rapid repairs to concrete, brickwork or masonry e.g. stairtreads and risers, screeds, and floors etc. It can be used for filling and patching cracks in walls, floors etc and making good around door and window frames, pipeworks or similar etc, and may also be used to build up thickness e.g. forming ramps. Rapid Setting Repair Mortar is not a wearing surface and will require covering with a suitable material where this is required.
Durabond Rapid Setting Repair Mortar has been formulated to give shrinkage compensation.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Rapid Setting Repair Mortar is a rapid curing slump free mortar that sets after 15 minutes and can be walked on after 11/2 hours at 20 oC.
It can be applied to moistened screeds providing the surface is sound and free of dust, grease, oil and other surface contamination. To improve adhesion to difficult surfaces Durathon Primer is recommended.
MIXING.
Rapid Setting Repair Mortar is added to the required amount of water in a clean mixing container and mixed throughly to obtain a lump free and slump resistant mortar.
The mix proportions are 3 parts powder to 1 part water by volume. (2.25litres water per 10k bag)
Avoid using too much water. The mixed motar has a working time of 10 to 15 minutes at 20 oC. For repairs of screeds over 5mm thick, the Rapid Setting Repair Mortar can be mixed with 1/3 volume of sharp and (0-5mm grading) or an equal volume of 3mm single sized aggregate/chippings. For thicker applications 3-8mm aggregate may be used for economy.
APPLICATION.
REPAIRS.
Fill the holes, cracks or damaged areas with Rapid Setting Repair Mortar. After about 15 minutes finsih off with a wet trowel to obtain a smooth surface. As soon as the Rapid Setting Repair Mortar repair has hardened the treated surface can be levelled with Durabond Supreme sub-floor smoothing compound if required.
SMOOTHING AND RE-FACING.
Apply the mixed mortar with a trowel to the required thickness. Do not attempt to lay too much mortar taking into account the short working time. The material may be finished with wet trowel after 15 to 20 minutes to provide a finish suitable for direct application of floorcoverings. High aggregate content mixes will require a final application of either neat Rapid Mortar to give a smooth finish or Durabond Supreme Smoothing Underlayment.
Apply at temperatures above 5oC.
COVERAGE.
Approximately 1.6 Kg Rapid Setting Mortar powder per sq.m.per mm. of thickness.
PRECAUTIONS.
Rapid setting Repair Mortar is considered to be a non-hazardous product in normal usage. The presence of cement in the product gives an alkaline mortar which may cause some local irritation on prolonged contact. Care should be taken to avoid inhalation or ingestion of dust and contact with eyes during mixing.
