Ceramic Floor & Wall Tile Adhesive (Rapid Set)
Identification
A thin or thick bed Rapid Setting Adhesive for internal and external use For Fixing
Ceramic floor and wall tiles, mosaics, brick slips, earthenware and stoneware tiles, and non translucent natural stone tiles.
TO
Concrete (6 months old), aerated concrete (indoors), cement and sand renderings, plasters (cement, lime, cement and gypsum based), brickwork, blockwork, plasters (cement, lime cement and gypsum), plasterboards, cement screeds (at least 4 weeks old), and other dimensionally stable construction materials and surfaces.
Priming is necessary on aerated concrete, gypsum plasters, plasterboards. When bonding to chipboard, marine ply etc., or to achieve a flexible and waterproof adhesive, Durabond CTA should be mixed with Durathon Admixture instead of water.
Surface Preparation
The surface being adhered to must be clean, free from dust, dirt, grease, oil and other contaminants, and must be adequately stable to support the weight of materials being fixed. Surfaces such as concrete, sand/cement and similar materials need thorough cleaning prior to application procedures. In some cases, however, priming or an admixture is necessary depending on the nature of the substrate. Irregularities of up to 10mm in the substrate may be levelled with Durabond Rapid Set CTA.
Mixing Instructions
Durabond Rapid Set CTA (20kg) is added to 4.5 litres of clean water while stirring with a mixing paddle and slow speed drill. Ensure that the material mixed can be used within forty minutes. The mortar has an approximate open time of 15 minutes, and should be used within the temperature range of 5 - 30°C.
Application
Apply adhesive to surface, combing with notched trowel as per the following table. Press the tiles into place within 20 minutes.
| Tile | Trowel Notch | Approx. Coverage per 20kg |
| Mosaic | 3 x 3mm at 6mm Centres | 14.3m² |
| Flat Back Wall | 5 x 5mm at 10mm Centres | 8.3m² |
| Lightly Keyed | 8 x 8mm at 16mm Centres | 5.3m² |
| Deep Keyed or Studded | 10 x 10mm at 20mm Centres | 4.2m² |
Tiles may be walked on and grouted after three hours, and will become load bearing after 24 hours at 20°C. Pools may be filled after one week. Durathon Admixture (6kg) to be added to one bag (20kg) of Durabond Rapid Set CTA for quick and flexible bonding to (internal) chipboard, heated screeds, sound and well adhering paintwork, asphalt floors, (internal/external) existing tiles etc. Working time, open time, and hardening time are all influenced by temperature. Higher temperatures shorten and lower temperatures extend the stated times.
Precautions
Durabond Rapid Set CTA contains cement. Gives a strong alkaline reaction with moisture. Protect eyes and skin. In case of contact, wash with water. In case of contact with eyes seek medical advice.
Storage
Durabond Rapid Set CTA has a shelf life of at least 6 months if stored in dry conditions in original closed pack.
Health & Safety
