Rapid Set Pourable
Durabond Rapid Set Pourable is a grey specially formulated rapid hardening flexible tile bedding mortar for fixing all types of floor tiles and mosaics, brick, pavers, terrazzo and natural stone in external or internal situations. Durabond Rapid Set Pourable has enhanced adhesion properties ideal for fully vitrified tiles and mosaics. The mixed mortar has a fluid pourable consistency which enables even large format tiles to be fixed without the need to butter the back profile. Floor tiles bedded in Durabond Rapid Set Pourable can be grouted and subjected to foot traffic 5 hours after fixing at normal temperatures (23°C).
SURFACE PREPARATION
Any surface being adhered to must be clean, firm, free of dust, dirt, oil, grease and other barrier materials as well as being strong enough to support the weight of the tiles being fixed. Ensure that the background's required drying time, as given in the relevant part of BS 5385, is allowed to elapse prior to fixing the tiles. Durabond Rapid Set Pourable will also adhere to dry or moist sub-floors such as cement / sand or concrete screeds. providing they are sound, clean and free of barrier materials.
MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
Durabond Rapid Set Pourable powder is added to clean water in a bucket, stir and mix thoroughly with a mixing paddle for 3 minutes. Wait for 10 minutes and mix again for 30 seconds to give a fluid, easily worked mortar. The mix proportions by volume are: -
- Approximately 4.5 parts Durabond Rapid Set Pourable powder to 1 part water.
- A 20kg bag requires 4.4 litres of water. The water content can be adjusted depending on the size and type of tile being fixed.
- The mortar is immediately ready for use and has a working time of about 30 minutes at 23°C. The adhesive has an open time of approx. 20mins.
- Apply at temperatures above 5°C.
Durabond Rapid Set Pourable has a workability that allows the tiles to be solidly bedded in a ribbed mortar so that no voids are left beneath the tile thus eliminating the need for buttering the backs of the tiles. Apply the mortar to the sub-floor and comb through with the appropriate square toothed and notched trowel to give straight ribs of mortar. The ribbed mortar bed has an open time of at least 20 minutes at 23°C. The area covered by the ribbed mortar bed should be limited so that tiles can be bedded within the open time. Once the mixed mortar begins to stiffen the mortar must be discarded, do not add more water. Use an 8mm x 8mm notched trowel for general floor tiling, or 10mm x 10mm for deeply keyed extruded tiles, natural stone etc.
LEVELLING SUB-FLOORS
Where the cement/sand or concrete sub-floor requires pre-levelling prior to fixing ceramic tiles, Durabond Pourable Rapid Set can be used to obtain the required level.
GROUTING INSTRUCTIONS
Tiles fixed with Durabond Rapid Set Pourable may be grouted 5 hours after fixing at 23°C. Use Durabond GT - Floor grout or Durabond GT - Flex grout as required. Tiles may be opened to foot traffic 24 - 48 hours after grouting depending on conditions.
